1. Don’t be fooled into signing up for their membership club or timeshare ‘deal’ by these scammers! The price listed is often much higher than what they actually charge you to use their service. They’ll offer you some ‘deal’ and then expect you to pay hundreds of dollars every month!
2. Don’t pay them any money! Non payment is a good way to protect yourself from these scammers, but you might notice that they’ll resort to contacting you via email or phone. If they do, then disconnect the call and walk away.
3. Report them to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). They often have reports on people like this, which could help you in your timeshare claim.
4. Don’t use their contact form for submitting claims! These scammers will try to get your contact information by posing as a representative of their company and notifying you that they’ve won the timeshare prize and will be sending you a check for your winnings.
5. Don’t trust them! Keep all of their emails, and if you do decide to contact them then do some research first. If you can, try finding out the person who will be in charge of handling your claim and call that number directly.
6. Call the company directly to make sure this isn’t an actual promotion. When all else fails, you can always avoid paying the maintenance fees as it would be extremely difficult to relinquish timeshare ownership. However, you can bet the collection agency will be after you. Besides, that is not going to do your credit score any favors. You are going to learn your lesson one way or the other and that is to never let anyone coax you into buying anything that is out of your league.
